Check out a detailed breakdown of the selling process here.
What types of vehicles do you buy?
We buy all commuter vehicles, such as cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, and vans. We’re also open to considering other types of vehicles, so feel free to contact us with any inquiries about your specific vehicle type.
What kinds of vehicles do you not purchase?
We generally insist that vehicles have an engine, transmission, wheels, and tires. However, if your vehicle lacks any of these, please contact us. We can sometimes make an exception on a case-by-case basis.
Are there any costs or fees involved in selling my car to you?
No, your vehicle pickup and title transfer are 100% free.
How soon can I get paid?
You could receive payment as soon as today! We provide payment at the time of pickup after you sign the title over to us, ensuring a swift and hassle-free transaction.
Do you also sell vehicles?
While primarily focusing on purchasing vehicles, we partner with numerous reseller vendors nationwide. If you have inquiries about purchasing a vehicle through these auto auctions, please reach out to us directly at sales@sellcarus.com. We’ll be happy to assist you further.

Where do you buy vehicles?
SellCarUS operates nationwide, covering all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Our extensive reach allows us to purchase vehicles from virtually anywhere in the country.
We’re committed to providing convenience and accessibility to sellers nationwide, making us the ideal choice for selling your vehicle regardless of location.
Can I sell multiple vehicles?
Absolutely! You’ll receive a bonus for selling more than one vehicle to us at a time. Contact us at (866) 784-2033 to learn how to take advantage of this offer.
Will you buy my vehicle if it has missing parts?
Typically, we buy vehicles with installed and intact engines, transmissions, and a complete set of wheels and tires. Occasionally, we may accept cars without one of those items.
Less vital parts missing, such as a tail light or rearview mirror, are not an issue. We review each vehicle and decide on a case-by-case basis.
Will you buy my vehicle if it has a loan or lien?
Before purchasing your vehicle, all liens and loans must be satisfied and released, meaning you owe no money on the car. To proceed with the sale, you must provide us with the original signed or stamped lien or loan release document at pickup. These documents ensure a smooth transaction and allow us to acquire the vehicle legally.
Do you buy other types of vehicles, such as RVs or boats?
While we primarily focus on commuter-type vehicles, we also buy other types of vehicles, such as RVs and boats. Our purchasing scope extends beyond cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans. If you have a vehicle you’re looking to sell, regardless of its type, don’t hesitate to contact us for a quote.
Do I need to create an account to sell my vehicle?
No account creation or registration is necessary with SellCarUS. Unlike others who require you to sign up, we streamline the process by eliminating the need for an account.
Can I sell an abandoned vehicle?
When purchasing your vehicle, we require proof of ownership, typically in the form of a title. Without this documentation, we are unable to proceed with the purchase. If a vehicle has been abandoned on your property and you do not have the necessary proof of ownership, such as a title, we are unable to buy it.
However, we’d be happy to discuss purchasing options with you if you can obtain the proper documentation.
Documentation
What documents are required to sell my vehicle to you?
To sell your vehicle to us, you’ll need your vehicle’s title, which must be free and clear of any liens or loans. Additionally, you’ll need to provide a valid state ID for identification purposes. While other documents, such as service records, can be helpful for valuation, they are not mandatory for the selling process.
Does the title need to be in my name?
Typically, we issue payment to the legal owner listed on the title.
However, exceptions do occur. For instance, for deceased owners, additional paperwork is required from the seller to prove authorization to sell. Our title specialists will help walk you through this process.
If you purchased the car but the previous owner’s name is still on the title, even if you signed as the “buyer,” it’s illegal to sell it without obtaining a new title issued in your name. This practice, known as “title jumping,” is prohibited in all 50 states. However, we can assist you in navigating this process.
I don’t have the title. What should I do?
Suppose you own the vehicle but have lost or misplaced the title. In that case, our title specialists can assist you in obtaining a duplicate title from your local motor vehicles department. Typically, you’ll need to provide alternative proof of ownership, such as registration and a valid ID, to facilitate this process.
Our team is happy to help guide you through the necessary steps to obtain the required documentation to sell your vehicle.
How do I sign my title?
Signing a title involves printing your name, signing your name, and dating the back of the vehicle’s title in the “Seller” section.
However, specific requirements vary by state, making the process different for each vehicle. Our team will guide you through signing and transferring your title to us as part of our service. We ensure that all necessary steps are taken correctly and per your state’s regulations, making the transaction smooth and hassle-free.
I filled out my title wrong/made a mistake. What should I do?
Call us for assistance. We can help you obtain a corrected title from your local motor vehicles department. Don’t make any marks on the title, as this can further complicate the process.
What is a VIN? Where can I find it?
VIN = Vehicle Identification Number
This number, which is 17 characters (for newer cars, at least), contains important information about your vehicle, such as where it was made, the model year, and even the manufacturing plant.
You can find your VIN on the dashboard of the driver’s side (visible through the windshield) or on the driver’s side door frame (where the door latches when closed).
You can also find your VIN on your vehicle registration documents, title documents, and insurance cards.
Why do I need to provide my VIN?
Providing your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is crucial for several reasons. First, it helps us verify ownership of the vehicle. Second, we use the VIN to check the car’s history, including any accidents or damage that can affect its value. Third, the VIN assists in providing a more precise offer valuation, ensuring you receive the most accurate estimate for your vehicle.
Valuation and Offers
How do you calculate my offer?
Our valuation is based on five factors – market data/trends, resale values of used/salvage vehicles, scrap metal/commodity prices, vehicle location, and vehicle condition.
- Market Data/Trends: Current trends and demand for vehicles like yours help us understand how much buyers are willing to pay in today’s market.
- Resale Values for Used/Salvage Vehicles: We check what similar cars are selling for to see how desirable and valuable your vehicle is. This includes metrics like mileage, age, condition, and past accidents. Comparing your vehicle to others helps us determine a fair price and competitive valuation.
- Scrap Metal/Commodity Prices: Metals like steel, aluminum, and copper in your car can be recycled and sold as scrap. We keep tabs on the prices of scrap metal and commodities to determine the salvage value of your car’s components accurately.
- Location: Local demand and logistical factors impact your car’s value, so we adjust our offer accordingly. Certain areas have a higher demand for certain types of cars, or fewer similar vehicles are available.
- Condition: A vehicle’s current condition, including factors like body panel damage and age, directly impacts its valuation. Damage to body panels or other components can decrease the vehicle’s overall value, while older vehicles may depreciate over time. These factors are carefully considered during the valuation process to assess the vehicle’s worth accurately.
How long is my offer guaranteed?
Your offer is guaranteed for five days. After those five days, the offer is no longer guaranteed and is subject to change. The vehicle markets are volatile, so our offers can change.
Is my offer subject to change after it has been provided?
Your offer is typically firm unless there’s a significant discrepancy between the vehicle’s condition as represented during the initial quote and its actual condition upon inspection.
For instance, if undisclosed damage or mechanical issues are discovered during inspection, it may affect the final offer. However, we strive to provide accurate and fair quotes based on the information provided initially to ensure transparency and integrity throughout the process.
Can I negotiate or counter the offer provided?
Absolutely. We welcome discussions and negotiations regarding your offer, particularly if you have additional information that may affect the valuation of your vehicle.
We strive for fairness and transparency throughout the process, so feel free to communicate any concerns or preferences you may have, and we’ll work with you to reach a satisfactory agreement.
Pickup and Payment
Who pays for the tow?
We cover the entire cost of the pickup and tow of your vehicle, making it entirely free for you. Whether your vehicle is in your driveway or at a repair shop, our team handles the logistics and expenses associated with towing, ensuring a hassle-free experience for you.
How quickly can you pick up my vehicle?
Vehicle pickups typically occur within 1 to 3 business days after accepting our offer, with many scheduled for the following day. In urgent cases, we may even arrange same-day pickups. However, delays may occasionally happen due to weather, holidays, or other significant events. We do not guarantee same-day or specific pickup times.
I need to cancel or reschedule my pickup. What should I do?
If you need to cancel or reschedule your pickup, inform us as soon as possible, and we’ll gladly accommodate your request. We understand that circumstances can change, so we’re flexible and willing to make alternative arrangements that suit your needs.
Do I need to be present for pickup?
Generally, your presence is not required during the vehicle pickup, provided that the title is signed and all prior arrangements have been agreed upon by all parties involved.
If you cannot be present, you can pre-sign the title and leave the keys with the vehicle. In some cases, you may need to mail the title to us, and once we receive it, we’ll mail payment to you.
However, please note that we can only issue payment once we have received the title or equivalent documentation.
How do I get my vehicle ready for pickup?
First, remove all your documents, valuables, automatic toll passes, CDs, and other personal items from the car. Next, remove your license plates if your state requires them. Lastly, gather all the paperwork you’ll need, like your title and ID and your vehicle’s keys.
Ensure the tower can easily reach your vehicle by clearing obstacles and giving clear directions on where it’s parked.
Do you require a vehicle inspection?
No, we do not require an official inspection. However, our tow driver will conduct a cursory on-site review of your vehicle at the time of pickup. This review may involve verifying the body’s condition, confirming its operational status, or testing specific features as necessary.
When will I receive payment for my vehicle?
Upon arrival for pickup, our team will first conduct an on-site review of your vehicle to ensure its condition is in line with the information you initially provided. We’ll proceed with the payment process once the review is complete and all parties are satisfied.
At this time, you’ll receive payment directly from us, providing you with immediate compensation for your vehicle. Additionally, you’ll hand over the keys and sign the title to finalize the transaction. We aim to streamline the payment process, ensuring you receive your funds promptly and efficiently while completing all necessary steps for a smooth and hassle-free transaction.
Do I receive a check or cash?
While we understand the convenience of receiving cash, we issue payments via check for safety and practical reasons. Checks ensure the safety of our tow drivers and you while providing a clear transaction record. Rest assured; you’ll receive payment promptly through a check, allowing for a secure and transparent transaction.
Is there anything I should do after you pick up my vehicle?
After pickup, remember to:
- Cancel Insurance: Notify your insurance company to avoid paying premiums for a vehicle you no longer own.
- Notify DMV: Inform your local motor vehicles department to update their records. You may need to return license plates and submit a transfer notice or liability release. Laws vary, so check with your local authority.
